So, we have returned exhausted but victorious from our trips to SXSW and the Junos! A few highlights:
- Blue Rodeo brought home the gold (well, crystal) with a BEST DVD JUNO for Blue Road. This brings the band's Juno tally to 12!
- Oh Susanna played SXSW to a full and enraptured house. This was one of my favourite performances of hers (and I've seen plenty!) and the band was smokin' hot. Wonderful.
- Watching the Juno Cup and witnessing the Rockers beat out the NHL All-Star Team.
- In addition to our own artists, other musical highlights included seeing Ben Harper at Austin City Limits, Andre Williams at the Continental Club, The Felice Brothers (!!) at Habana Calle Backyard, Louris & Olsen at the New West party, Matt Morris at Jessie Scott's Music Fog party, Tim Easton & Deer Tick at the Front Gate Party and during JunoFEST we caught Divine Brown, Matthew Barber as well as 5440 at the Commodore. Not to mention all the great talent at the Warner Music Party! Michael Buble, Divine Brown, Barenaked Ladies, Ron Sexsmith, NQ Arbuckle, Elliott Brood, Luke Doucet, the list goes on....
However, there is no rest for the wicked(ly cool). On the hopper are:

On October 28th Blue Rodeo will release Blue Road, a DVD/CD set. The DVD, shot by Juno-Award winning director Chris Mills (C’mon, Pull Me Through), was shot at Greg Keelor’s home studio, Lost Cause, as the band rehearses and records a new song “Losing You”. It also captures an intimate jam session as we sit in on the band playing together in the round. The Blue Road documentary includes footage of the band on the road and backstage during their Small Miracles Tour.
Chapter 2 of the Blue Road DVD gives us a unique fan’s perspective of Blue Rodeo’s 10 song acoustic set Live at Massey Hall Bootleg. The video documents the band’s February 29, 2008 performance at Toronto’s most venerable venue, Massey Hall. The CD that accompanies the package includes the audio portion of Blue Rodeo’s Live at Massey Hall acoustic set as well as the newly recorded “Losing You”.
“After all these years, Blue Rodeo can still surprise.”
- Edmonton Sun
"Critics are supposed to work behind an unconvincing veil of objectivity, but what the hell: Out of the 30-odd times I've seen Blue Rodeo, last night's expertly calibrated show ranks near the top of the list."
